Coffee Art

I first discovered coffee art when I was living in New York and worked a 9 to 5 office job. Every morning I would buy a cup of coffee on my way to work. One day I was running late and by the time I arrived at work some of the coffee spilled over onto the cup and made some interesting stains. It gave me an idea to try to use it like paint. Took me a few years of experimenting and research to find a formula I am comfortable using and getting results I am happy with.

The Process

A question I get a lot of is…

”How do you paint with coffee?”

It has taken me a few years and even now I’m still experimenting. The gist of it is that I make my own coffee extract. I figured this out by researching the web and watching multiple youtube videos. There are two methods. One is quick and dirty and the second is more time consuming and what I personally use.

Method 1

  1. Instant coffee

  2. vodka (cheapest if possible)

  3. Blender

Instructions:

  1. put about a cup of instant coffee and a cup of vodka.

  2. blend for 5-7 minuets straight

  3. adjust adding coffee/vokda for consistency you’re looking for

Method 2

What you’ll need:

  1. Whole coffee beans (if expired should still work)

  2. Coffee grinder

  3. vodka

  4. Mason Jars with lids

  5. masking tape with marker

  6. Fine strainer/cheese cloth

  7. sauce pan

Instructions

  1. blend about 10-20g of coffee in the highest course setting

  2. Put coffee in jar and add vodka until sightly above the ground beans

  3. let sit for 2 - 8 weeks stirring every 5 days

  4. Strain coffee

  5. Put extracted contents in sauce pan

  6. Cook to a boil and let cook until you get desired consistency
